Giraffe Facts By Ellen Keltch

The giraffe is the tallest animal in the world. The male giraffe sometimes reaches about 18 feet tall. The female is between 16 and 17 feet tall. The giraffe is so tall so that it may see its enemies. They giraffes' enemies are lions and men. The giraffe's long legs also help it to stay alive. She can run almost 35 miles an hour. She can easily outrun a lion . Giraffes can smell and hear very well. They can see in every direction without turning their head. The pattern on the giraffe helps to protect it. She can hide in the trees and almost cannot be seen. Most of the rest the giraffe gets she gets standing up. She rests mostly in the middle of the day. She searches for food in the morning and evening when it is cool.
