Visiting Crete and Finding the Vizirakis Relatives - June 2008

GREECE - CRETE TRIP - June, 2008

In June of 2008, we took a vacation to Crete. I had visited Crete when I was in college in 1980 and had always wanted to return. Ellen had just graduated from high school and Nate was just a year away, so we thought this might be the last chance for a long family vacation. Recently, I had been learning more about my maternal grandfather Starvos Vizirakis, and was very interested to learn if we had any relatives in Crete. It was thrilling and wonderful to find many relatives. The hospitality and generosity of the Vizirakis relatives was overwhelming. A map of locations visited and our schedule are below. The links on the left will take you to a photo album of each area. I am looking forward to getting to know my relatives and to getting back to Crete!!
